I'm about 280 lbs and side sleeper. Bought a memory foam mattress last year and it's awesome for like the first 10 minutes, then I sink in and it feels like quicksand. Waking up with shoulder and hip pain. Any recommendations for heavy side sleepers? I need support without feeling like I'm in wet cement.
My mattress feels great for 10 minutes then I'm stuck
LOL the quicksand description is too accurate. Memory foam is the worst for us bigger folks. You need something with more resilience.
What's your budget? And have you considered latex? That's usually the go-to for heavy side sleepers. It pushes back instead of letting you sink.
Budget is flexible but not unlimited. Latex sounds interesting but I've heard it's hot? Also isn't it super expensive?
I'm 250 and got a hybrid (coils + foam). Way better than pure foam. The coils give support and the foam is just for comfort. Might be worth looking into.
How long have you had the foam one? Could be defective or just too soft. Maybe try a firm mattress topper? Cheap fix before dropping big money.
Latex does sleep warmer than some foams but there are ventilated options. Look for Dunlop or Talalay with holes. And yeah it's pricey, but mine has lasted 8 years without sagging.
Seconding hybrid. I'm 310 and the coil support made a huge difference. Also get a mattress with a high-density foam base, not the cheap stuff.
Topper might help but if the foam is already shot it's just delaying the inevitable. How old is the mattress? Most foams sag after a couple years for heavy sleepers.
It's only 14 months old. Shouldn't be sagging already. I'm going to check the warranty. Thanks for the hybrid and latex suggestions—lots to look into.
14 months? Definitely try warranty. Most have 10-year coverage against sagging. Might get a replacement or credit.
Good luck. And avoid pillow tops if you go hybrid—they break down Fast.
