Is the Helix Plus worth the extra money

I'm around 280 lbs and have been looking at the Helix Plus. It's noticeably more expensive than other mattresses marketed for heavier sleepers. For those who have actually slept on it, does the extra cost translate to better durability and support, or am I just paying for the brand name? I need something that won't sag after a year.

GrumpyOtter

I've had mine for about 14 months. 6'2", 265. No sagging so far. The support is definitely there. Whether it's worth the prmium over something like a Titan or a Big Fig is hard to say, but I don't regret it.

What's the actual price difference we're talking about? Helix Plus is like $1,400 for a queen last I checked. Big Fig is around the same. Titan is significantly cheaper.

GrumpyOtter

I paid $1,250 for a queen on sale. But yeah, not cheap.

Helix Plus uses dense foam foam but it's still a foam mattress. If you're worried about longevity, look at the warranty terms. Helix has a 15-year warranty but it's prorated after 10. Big Fig offers 20 years non-prorated. That mattered more to me than the initial feel.

MapleSyrupRush

Warranty is one thing, but actually getting them to honor it is another. I've heard mixEd things about Helix customer service.

I'm 310 and tried the Helix Plus in a store. It felt supportive but a little too firm for side sleeping. I ended up with a Saatva HD instead, which was more expensive but has coils. Coils might last longer for heavy sleepers than all-foam.

GrumpyOtter

That's a fair point about coils. The Helix Plus is hybrid, actually. It has coils. Not all foam.

RustyNailClipper

Right, it's a hybrid. My mistake. Still, the foam layers on top are what usually break down first.

I've been on a Helix Plus for two years. 250 lbs. Its held up well, but I rotate it every three months. I think any mattress will last longer if you do that.

KettleCornQueen

Two years isn't that long in the grand scheme. Most mattresses should last 7-10 years. The real test is year 4 and 5.

LunarEcho22

True. I'll report back in a few years.

SilentOrbit77

I appreciate the input. The coil vs foam point is interesting. I might look more closely at the Saatva HD now, even though it's more expensive. Still on the fence about whether the Helix Plus is overpriced for what it is.
