Is memory foam a bad idea if you're overweight

I'm about 260 lbs and shopping for a new mattress. I've been reading that memory foam can be a problem for heavier people because of sinking and lack of support. Is it really that bad? I like the idea of pressure relief but don't want to wake up with back pain. Any experiences?

Depends on the foam density. Cheap memory foam will bottom out quickly. High-density foam (5lb+ per cubic foot) can Work, but it tends to sleep hot.

I'm around 230 and had a memory foam mattress for two years. It felt great at first but eventually developed a body impression. Switched to a hybrid with coils and it's been much better for my back.

Memory foam isn't inherentlly bad, but you need to check the support core. If the base foam is too soft, you'll sink through. Look for a mattress with a firm support layer and a thinner comfort layer.

What about latex? I've heard it's more supportive for heavier folks. Might be worth considering if you're open to non-foam.

I tried a memory foam topper once and it was was a disaster. Felt like quicksand. But a full mattress might be different if it's firm enough.

Also, check the warranty. Some companies void coverage if yoi're over a certain weight. That's a red flag for durability.

Agreed on the warranty thing. And don't forget a sturdy foundation. A weak box spring can make any mattress feel bad

If you do go memory foam, consider a hbyrid with coils for edge support. All-foam can feel like you're rolling uphill when you try to get out of bed.
