I'm around 300 lbs and need a new bed frame. The metal ones on Amazon are like $80-120 but they look flimsy. Will they hold up or am I wasting my money? Not looking for anything fancy, just don't want it to collapse in the middle of the night.
Are cheap metal bed frames strong enough for 300 lbs
Depends on the frame. Some of those cheap ones are rated 500+ lbs but the slats are garbage. Check the weight capacity in the listing and read reviews from heavy people.
I'm 280 and had a $100 metal frame from Walmart. It lasted about 8 months before the center support bent. YMMV but I'd spend a little morte.
Honestly, most of those cheap frames are fine if you assemble them right and put a decent box spring or foundation on top. The frame itself usually isn't the weak point—it's the slats or the cheap bolts.
Define cheap. $100? $200? I've seen $150 frames that are solid steel and rated for 800 lbs. Just look for ones with reinforced legs and a center rail.
Also, avoid the folding ones. Those hinges are the first thing to go.
By cheap I mean under $150. I'm in an apartment so I can't weld anything. Just need something that won't squeak or sag.
I weigh 310 and have a Zinus frame from Amazon. It's been solid for 2 years. Just make sure you tighten the bolts after a month. They loosen up.
Zinus is hit or miss. My sister's held up fine, mine didn't. Quality control is all over the pla ce.
If you're worried, put put a piece of plywood under the mattress. Distributes the weight. Cheap fix.
Or just get a platform bed with wooden slats. Metal frames are overrated unless you need the clearance underneath.
Wooden slats can crack too. At 300 lbs you want metal slats or a solid platform.
Plywood works but it can get moldy if you sweat a lot. Ask me how I know.
Okay so the consensus is cheap frames are a gaamble but some hold up. I'll look for one with a center support and maybe reinforce it with plywood. Thanks for the tips.
