Bought a super firm mattress three months ago because I'm a bigger guy and thought it would give better support. Now I wake up with shoulder and hip pain. Did I just make an expensive mistake? Anyone else regret going super firm?
Anyone regret buying a super firm mattress
yes. returned mine after 2 weeks. felt like sleeping on a concrete slab with a sheet over it.
Three months is long enough to know. Firm doesn't mean supportive. A lot of big guys actually need a little give at the shoulders and hips or you get pressure point hell.
I regret it but my wife loves it. So now I sleep on the couch half the time. Great investment.
Did you put a topper on it yet? I know everyone says that defeats the purpose but a 2 inch soft latex topper saved my firm mattress. Still supportive underneath.
Topper is basically paying twice for one bed. I'd rather just return it and get medium firm.
Depends how heavy and how you sleep. Back sleeper at 250? Super firm can work. Side sleeper? You're going to have a bad time.
Side sleeper, around 260. The shoulder thing is real.
Have you tried not being heavy? Just kidding. But seriously, firm mattresses are marketed to big people like they're the only option. Not true.
I regret every mattress purchase I've ever made. They're all either too soft, too firm, or smell like a chemical plant for a month.
Check the return policy before you do anything. Some places charge restocking fees. Also if you bought from one of those mattress-in-a-box brands they sometimes want you to donate it.
Mine softened up a bit after like 6 months. Not saying yours will but "super firm" out of the box isn't always the final feel. Still, if you're in pain now I wouldn't wait it out.
Mine didn't soften. It just developed a body-shaped crater where I sleep. So now it's soft in one spot and hard everywhere else.
What brand? Some super firm models aree legitimately just cheap foam with a firm label. Others are actually well-built.
It's a big brand, not a box bed. I'm leaning toward returning it and trying medium firm but I'm worried medium will sag in a year.
Sagging is more about build quality than firmness. A well-made medium firm will outlast a cheap super firm every time.
