What's better for heavy sleepers, foam or coils

I'm about 260 lbs and my current mattress is sagging after only two years. I've been reading that heavy sleepers need either high-density foam or strong coils, but I can't figure out which is better. I don't want to spend another $1000 on something that dies quickly. Any real experiences?

I'm 240, and I've had better luck with coils. Foam always felt like it was bottoming out under my hips.

Honestly depends on the foam density. Cheap foam is garbage for heavy people. You need at least 4lb density or higher. Most mainstream foam beds dont cut it.

Coils with a strong edge support have worked for me. I'm 290 and my innerspring is going on 5 years without sagging. But I made sure to get one with thicker gauge coils.

What about hybrids? I think that's the middle ground. Pocket coils plus a foam comfort layer. Best of both worlds for heavier folks.

I've seen hybrids mentioned but they seem pricier. Are they really worth it over a traditional coil mattress?

I'm 310 lbs and I went with a firm latex hybrid. Latex is more durable than memory foam for heavy sleepers. It's been 3 years and no sagging. But it was expensive.

Latex is a good call if you can afford it. But if you're on a budget, a firm innerspring with a dense foam layer on top can work. Just avoid pillow tops.

Also consider your sleeping position. Back and stomach sleepers need firmer, which coils usually do better. Side sleepers might need more pressure relief from foam.

I tried a memory foam mattress and it slept hot. That's another thing to think about. Coils breathe better.

Heat is a real issue. I sweat a lot on faom. My current coil mattress is much cooler.

Thanks for the input. I'm leaning toward a firm coil or hybrid now. Any specific brands to look at or avoid?

pixel_pusher

Avoid the big S brands if you want durability. They use lower densty foam. Look at smaller companies that list their specs.

Check the the warranty too. Some prorate it after a few years. A good warranty should cover sagging over 1.5 inches.

Also, rotate your mattress regularly. That helps a lot with sagging, especially for heavier sleepers.
