I'm around 280 lbs and need a new mattress. All these bed-in-a-box brands keep popping up, but I'm worried they'll sag after a year. Anyone have real experience with one holding up for a heavier person? Not looking for marketing fluff, just honest feedback.
Are mattresses in a box strong enough for heavier people
I'm 250 and tried a popular foam one. Felt great for 6 months, then started sinking. Went back to a traditional innerspring. YMMV but I'm skeptical.
What brand did you try? Some have denser foams than others.
Purple. The original. It was fine at first but the support just went away.
I'm 300+ and have a Titan from Brooklyn Bedding. It's specifically for heavy folks and it's held up 2 years so far. Not a box mattress though, but they ship it rolled.
Titan is on my radar. How's the edge support? I tend to sit on the edge to put shoes on.
Edge is decent, not amazing. I got a latex hybrid now, better edges but pricier.
Most bed-in-a-box use 3-4 lb density memory foam. For heavy folks you want at least 4-5 lb. Check specs before buying. Also, some companies use lower density in the support core.
I'm 270 and my Leesa has been fine for 3 years. No sagging. Maybe I got lucky?
Leesa uses 3 lb foam I think. Keep an eye on it.
Also check the trial period and warranty. Some exclude heavy people or require certain foundation.
Good point about warranty. Anyone actually used a warranty claim for sagging?
I tried. They sent a replacement but it was the same model, sagged again. Gave up and bought a Stearns & Foster.
Stearns is a totally different beast. But also 3x the price. If you can afford it, go traditional. If not, look for high-density foam or latex hybrids.
Latex is the way if you want durability. Sleep on latex has a hybrid that's tank-like. But it's not cheap and sleeps hot.
Just rotate your mattress regularly. Helped mine last longer.
Rotating only works for non-pillow-top. And some box mattresses have a specific top that shouldn't be flipped.
